Over the weekend of May 27-29th, 2016, SEVEN SMILEZONES were installed at the Kingston General Hospital in Kingston, ON.
An oncology parent waiting room, a family waiting room, a treatment room, an offset art room, two teen patient rooms and a hallway were transformed into lively environments with comfortable seating, interactive technology and sensory-oriented activities. These newly refurbished spaces help to provide an accessible and engaging hospital experience for young mothers caring for their infants, children and youth receiving treatment, and families waiting for loved ones. Throughout the transformation process, Smilezone worked closely with the Kingston General Hospital staff and facilities team in order to make their vision of a positive environment with innovative design elements come to life. There was much time and effort put into developing these Smilezones, enhancing and brightening up the entire hospital facility! Ultimately, KGH and Smilezone Foundation collectively created magical, family-friendly spaces, encouraging children and youth to learn play and most importantly, smile!
The Kingston General Hospital has been providing high quality complex-acute and specialty services since 1835. Every year, they admit more than 22,000 inpatients and see around 53,000 people in their emergency department.
