Our Foundation was able to install TWO SMILEZONES in early February 2015 at KidsAbility Centre for Child Development, Waterloo, ON.
The new Smilezones were installed in the centre’s main reception area, revitalizing the space to include features such as:
Bright new murals
A fun and accessible playhouse
And even an interactive GestureTek system for everyone to enjoy!
KidsAbility Centre for Child Development is the recognized leader in Waterloo Region and Guelph-Wellington for empowering children and youth with a wide range of complex special needs. Through a dynamic and passionate team of therapists, teachers, support staff and volunteers, over 5,800 children and youth, from birth to age 18, benefited from therapy and support services at our sites in Cambridge, Fergus, Guelph, Kitchener and Waterloo last year.
To add in the excitement for this installation, Laureen Harper, wife of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, visited KidsAbility weeks after the installation occurred and commented on how incredible the new renovation looked! Following up, it was humbling to get a letter from Mrs. Harper acknowledging what amazing work the Foundation is doing!
“I would personally like to thank the Smilezone Foundation for what you’ve created here in our very special foyer. You get it. You understand what these waiting areas and treatment rooms mean to us. You’re helping to create memories and positive experiences for our kids and the parents too. Our KidsAbility families thank you for that.”

“When I watched one of our children come into KidsAbility, he wandered around the new Smilezone in his walker checking out everything from the new playhouse, to the puzzle table to the TV. But, when he saw the GestureTek system, he didn’t hesitate as he picked up speed racing towards it. We all stood around and watched as he let go of his walker to plunk himself down in the middle of all of the action. The look of wonder and joy on his face as he interacted with the shapes and the ladybugs was incredible. But when he looked up at his mom and smiled, it melted all of our hearts.”
